Story of Nankya Galiwango Edith & Legacy:
Founded in 2025, the Nankya Galiwango Foundation honors the legacy of Nankya Galiwango Edith, a distinguished educator who dedicated her life to improving the educational system in Luweero District. Edith started her career as a classroom teacher at Sempa Primary School before rising to head teacher positions at Buyuki C/U, Kagembe C/U, Kasala C/U, and Kyetume C/U Primary Schools.

Our Programs

Activities:
Integrated community outreaches to hard-to-reach areas:
This initiative aims to reach remote communities that may not have easy access to healthcare services. We organize medical outreaches that include health screenings, consultations, and distribution of medicines to underserved populations in Luweero District. The foundation works in partnership with local health facilities, community leaders, and volunteers to ensure the outreaches reach those most in need.Malaria vaccine campaigns and mosquito net distribution:
Malaria continues to be a major health challenge in the region. Through targeted campaigns, we distribute mosquito nets and promote the use of malaria vaccines to protect communities, especially children and pregnant women. We also educate the public on malaria prevention and the importance of using nets properly.
Nankya Galiwango Foundation’s programs are designed to create lasting positive change in the community. Each program focuses on key areas that align with our mission to uplift the most vulnerable groups in Luweero District. By working on the ground in education, health, economic empowerment, child protection, and environmental conservation, we are striving to improve the lives of many people in our community. Read below for more details on each initiative and how you can support our work.
Health
Activities:
Establishment of school health clubs:
School health clubs are designed to raise awareness about common health issues among students. They provide a platform for learners to discuss health-related topics, such as malaria prevention, menstrual hygiene, and nutrition. These clubs also act as peer educators, helping spread important health information throughout the school community.Training learners in making reusable sanitary pads:
Access to menstrual products is often a barrier to girls' education. By training students, especially girls, in making reusable sanitary pads from locally available materials, we provide a sustainable solution to the issue of menstrual hygiene. This initiative also fosters a sense of self-reliance among the students while improving school attendance and participation.Distribution of scholastic materials (Pens, Books, Pencils, Rulers):
We distribute essential educational materials to vulnerable children to ensure they have the tools they need for learning. These supplies include books, pens, pencils, rulers, and other school materials, helping to eliminate barriers to education and improving the learning experience for children in Luweero District.

Education

Activities:
Establishment and support of savings groups:
We work with local communities to establish savings groups, which are a powerful tool for financial independence. These groups enable participants to pool resources, save together, and provide small loans to each other, improving their economic situation. We provide training on financial literacy, savings practices, and how to manage group funds effectively.Training and linking groups to banks, government programs, and financial services:
In addition to supporting local savings groups, we also facilitate access to formal financial services by linking these groups to local banks and government programs. This allows them to scale their savings efforts, access credit, and build a foundation for long-term financial security.
Economic Empowerment
Activities:
Safeguarding children from abuse and neglect through education and outreach:
Protecting children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation is a cornerstone of our mission. We run awareness campaigns in schools and communities to educate parents, children, and local leaders on child rights and protection laws. Our outreach programs aim to create safe spaces where children are informed about their rights and how to report abuse or neglect.Creating awareness on child rights and how to report cases of abuse:
In addition to direct intervention, we work on increasing public awareness of children's rights, ensuring that adults understand how to protect children and what actions to take if they suspect a child is at risk. We work with local authorities, social workers, and other community organizations to ensure that all children are safeguarded from harm.

Child Protection

Activities:
Tree planting initiatives to combat deforestation and promote sustainability:
We are committed to improving the local environment by organizing tree planting activities. These initiatives not only help combat deforestation but also contribute to improved air quality, soil preservation, and the overall health of our ecosystem. Trees also provide economic benefits by offering materials for local use and by enhancing biodiversity.Waste management programs to create cleaner, healthier environments:
Through community education, clean-up drives, and recycling initiatives, we work to create a sustainable environment in Luweero. Our waste management programs focus on reducing plastic pollution, promoting proper waste disposal practices, and encouraging recycling to keep the community clean and safe.
